Village of Lights

Mt. Vernon's Village of Lights event is perfect for getting people in the mood for the Holiday Season. It's also a great way to get ideas for your Holiday decorating!

The Chamber of Commerce Village of Lights festival began in 1991. This is the kick-off to the Christmas Season and is held the Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving. It begins with a Holiday Homes Tour, which consists of approximately 5-6 homes that open their doors to share their special seasonal decor. Tickets are $5.00 in advance and $7.00 the day of the tour. Proceeds from the tours have been spent in recent years to purchase lights to illuminate the Historic Lawrence County Courthouse located in the center of the town square.

Throughout the day on Saturday there are various activities which include carriage rides, entertainment, Christmas parade, sing-a-long, awards, and to top off the evening, the lighting ceremony of the Courthouse and businesses throughout the town.

Fun Auction

This event is prefect for the Holiday shopper who doesn't want to leave town and fight the crowds.

Customers will collect and save their receipts from their purchase from participating area businesses. Each receipt will then be turned in to use as points at the fun auction.

Citywide Garage Sale

If you are looking for great bargains without shopping on eBay, this event is for you! Each year Mt. Vernon hosts two city wide garage sales. People come from neighboring towns to get a good deal, so be sure to start out early on your hunt! This event is scheduled during the months of June and September. Please see the Calendar of Events for the dates.

Taste the Flavors of Lawrence County

The Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Agriculture Committee to introduce you to the flavors of your local area agricultural community in Lawrence County.

There will be over 40 vendors at this event sharing samples and selling their produce and products to you. You'll see everything that is grown here locally in Lawrence County from coffee to buffalo.

You have the opportunity to attend three 30-minute workshops will be available for you:

  • Eating with the Seasons
  • Organic Grown Gardening
  • Food Preparation and Safety
